A participatory performance that takes around 500 people in an audience and creates a ritual of connection by asking how do we build empathy and kinship with each other when we don’t know each other’s languages? Using AI and other digital tools, I created a performance in Chinese without speaking a word of it, in a quest to find a common language between myself and the audience.
Karimi was the only U.S. born artist invited for the first ever concert sponsored by China’s One Road program. The show was televised on Chinese CCTV Channel 4 to a multi-million viewership.
